Question 1: Summer is a time of vacations and lazy days. How do you stay on your fitness journey while away from home?
This is the first summer I have really had a chance to relax. For several years, I was working and taking at least one class, so I felt pretty tied to home. I’ve had a couple chances to travel this year (a cruise in February and a long weekend in Nashville in May). So, when I am traveling, to be honest, I usual am a lot more lenient about health and fitness. I try to stay cognizant and not eat everything in sight and act like a sloth, but vacation is vacation! Plus, I like being active, walking around and seeing the sights when I travel, so I am still getting in activity, just not the usual routines.

For summer in general, I find that it is so much easier for me to stay on track (most days). Since I live in Michigan, I try to take full advantage of the nice summer weather since winters are terrible and I don’t do cold and snow well. I live near Lake Michigan and my family has a camper near another big lake, so I spend a lot of time playing in the water. Plus, all the fresh, locally grown produce is awesome!!

Question 2: Motivation often changes over time. What would you say your current fitness motivation is? Has your motivation changed over time? If so, how?
In all honesty, right now my big motivation is getting my act together, so to speak, so that I don’t sound like a total hypocrite having a healthy living blog, yet don’t live that lifestyle. Beyond that, right now I’m really focused on finishing my weight loss journey that I started almost four years ago. I have fluctuated right around the same 15 pound range for about two years, but I would love to reach my goal weight. I am also starting to train for a half marathon.

My motivation has completely changed. When I started my weight loss journey in 2006, I was completely focused on the numbers on the scale and how many Weight Watchers points I was eating every day. Over the past year or two, I’ve started focusing more on just being all around healthy.

Question 3: Why did you start blogging? Blogging is time intensive; how much time do you spend per week working on it?
I first stumbled across Caitlin’s Healthy Tipping Point and read her site daily. From hers, I slowly discovered other bloggers. After awhile, I realized that if I enjoyed reading other blogs so much, why not join the healthy living community as a blogger myself? I love writing and I thought it would help me on my journey towards a healthier lifestyle. I’ve only had my site for about two months, but I already feel like it’s made such a great impact!

The time I spent varies a bit. Some days or weeks, I feel like I have more to say than others. Counting the time I work on my own blog, plus reading others on Google Reader, I probably spend about an hour a day.

Question 4: The more time you invest in blogging, do you feel increased pressure to succeed? Any invisible pressure from readers?
I think a lot of the pressure I feel is completely self-imposed. I want my blog to be great, not so much for whoever may be reading, but for myself. If I’m investing time in something that I work on daily, I want it to be quality. I think the pressure I feel is mostly to live out the lifestyle I want to have. I definitely don’t feel pressure from readers…those who do leave comments are nothing but supportive and encouraging. Those comments are such a great motivation to keep trying my hardest!

Question 5: Give us a link to your favorite most recent blog post and share WHY it is a favorite.
My favorite post of late would probably be No Excuses. I think it was a time when I had a good wakeup call about justifying the times when I don’t eat well or don’t get the exercise I know I should. I want to do well on this journey and the realization that when the excuses for not doing well become more frequent than the actually doing well, it’s not a good thing.

    It’s nice to read responses over 140 characters. I love reading the fitblog chats but I don’t often participate because I try to turn off the computer at night. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I stay motivated to exercise, because it is my favorite way to start the day. It gives me energy and alone time. So whether it is a video, yoga, or cardio, I am motivated to do it first thing in the morning.
    2. My current fitness motivation is to build muscle and not focus so much on cardio. I also want to build up to doing more advanced yoga poses. I find that all of my ab work is paying off, because I actually hold a headstand without using a wall! Progress like that is a great motivator!
    3. I actually started blogging after reading some cooking and baking blogs or a few months. I realized that I loved cooking, had awesome ideas, and wanted a way to stay accountable to my passions. My favorite blogs were (and still are) Joy the Baker and Simply Recipes.
    4. I do feel pressure and I often compare myself to other bloggers. Obviously, this makes me feel awful, so I try my best to not do this. I blog for me. If other people enjoy what they read and see, then that is great! But it is not necessary.
    5. I picked 2 posts from the last month that I like. But going through the past month, I like a lot of my posts!
