it’s the little things.

Happy Thanksgiving month!  I don’t know about you, but over the past couple years, Thanksgiving has really become my favorite holiday.  It’s a day about family, remembering those things I’m thankful for and the many blessings in my life, and eating great food.

it’s the little things.

In honor of Thanksgiving month, Julie at Savvy Eats is hosting a celebration of 25 days of the little things.

I don’t know about you, but life just seems so much more beautiful when I can appreciate the things that normally go unnoticed or I may otherwise take for granted.  In college, a couple of my girlfriends had this big sheet of paper up on the wall of their living room and with the phrase “today I found joy in…” written in the center and all around, they would write those simple little things that made the day a bit brighter.  You know, the little stuff like walking on crunchy fall leaves or a coffee date with an old friend, that kind of stuff.  So, friends, let’s celebrate and cherish the little things, shall we?

I set my alarm last night for 5:15, so I’d have time to head to the Y before work.  The problem?  Setting said alarm for 5:15 pm does me no good whatsoever at 5:15 am.  Fail.

Fortunately, I woke up before I had to be at work, so I had some time (although not quite enough) to get ready and head out.  One of the wonderful women that works on my floor was a bit of a saint and brought in bagels for everyone.  I don’t know how much better a bagel actually is compared to the PopTarts I grabbed as I ran out the door, I’ll take a cinnamon crunch bagel from Panera any day!

november goals.

food. slow down when I eat!  I am notoriously a fast eater, but I want to learn to slow down and enjoy my food.  I think it makes the whole dining experience more enjoyable and I know it’s better for my body, both for digestion and it will help me to recognize when I’m actually full.

drink. I did pretty well with cutting back on the Diet Coke last month, but this month, I want to cut it out completely.  Additionally, get in my 64 ounces of water every day.  I got a cute new water bottle over the weekend and that, for some reason, always keeps me a bit more excited about drinking what’s inside.

exercise. get my sweat on 4x per week.  I’m not so much concerned about the type of exercise, but just the fact I’m doing it.  Running, elliptical, strength, yoga.  Just make it happen.

money. establish my budget/gift ideas for Christmas.

life in general. make better use of my time.  period.  It can get super easy to get caught up in reading blogs, perusing Twitter, zoning out in front of the TV.  Not to say I’m not going to ever do any of that ever, but I want to be more aware of how I’m using my time.

Do you have any goals for the month?  How do you figure out what they are?

I love the idea of focusing on the little things. One of my favorite little things is sitting quietly with a big cup of coffee first thing in the morning… no tv, no computer. Just the coffee and my thoughts.
