baking fail.

For the youth group I volunteer with, we have quarterly leader trainings.  Like any good meeting, food is always involved.  Sometimes it’s dinner, other times, dessert.

Tonight it was dessert.  We were all supposed to bring something for an epic dessert buffet.  I needed something quick and easy to make, so my first thought was Jenna’s Lazy Girl’s Chocolate Chip Blondies.  I’ve made them before and never had a problem.  It’s quickly becoming one of my go-to recipes.

Today was a bit of a baking fail.

After 30 minutes, they were still completely raw, so I left them in a bit longer.  Then, I noticed a fairly significant layer of a buttery, oily mess on the top.  Another ten minutes or so, they had hardened up a bit.

Some of them came out of the pan looking (mostly) okay.

Still a bit gooey, but I’m quite okay with gooey cookies.  I prefer them that way, to be honest.  Most of the pan came out in a bit mess.

Needless to say, I didn’t bring them to the potluck.  There were definitely enough desserts without my contribution though.

Fortunately, my dinner came out a lot better.  I had a leftover vegetarian sloppy joe that I had pulled out of the freezer earlier in the week.

And sweet potato fries coated with panko bread crumbs, kosher salt, pepper, and chili powder.

Okay, off to go watch Hannah Montana something on TV that a normal 27 year old woman would watch.  Okay, confession time:  Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus is a guilty pleasure.  I know it’s lame but I’m okay with that.

What’s your guilty pleasure television show?

I tried those lazy-girl blondies and had similar results too – tasty, but not really something I could bring to a gathering like I had been hoping to.

No cable here anymore, so I can’t really think of any shows that are too guilty-pleasureish age-wise. I could watch Gilmore Girls forever though. ❤

Sometimes cooking/baking fails set stage for amazing improvements the second time around.

I like to watch (though a bit ashamed to admit it) the dumbest criminal shows — sometimes, it’s hysterical — what were they thinking?

Those still look SO good even though they didn’t turn out exactly as planned! I like to watch 16 and Pregnant as my guilty pleasure. 🙂
