i’ve got soul, but i’m not a soldier (but i am a solemate!).

11.17.10

soulsolemate.

I have been so inspired by Caitlin and how she has gotten into volunteering with/supporting Girls on the Run.  GOTR is all about “educating and preparing girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living” which I am all about!

I did something today that I had been thinking about doing for awhile:  I signed up to be a SoleMate!

The SoleMates program is an opportunity for adult runners to raise money to help support their local chapters.  I am beyond excited to help support the work of the Kent County Girls on the Run.

I have pledged to raise $262, but I would love, love, love to blow that number out of the water!  Will you please consider supporting me financially?  Any and all donations are beyond appreciated and can be made at my personal fundraising page.

Can I be real with y’all for a minute?  I’m having a minor moment of panic about not actually being able to raise all the money.  Whatever I don’t raise out of my goal comes out of my own pocket.  Eek.  I’m glad I have a solid six months to raise the money, but still, it’s a bit daunting all at the same time.

Moving on.

I can always tell when it starts nearing winter because I start craving warm foods.  Today was such a day.  Despite wearing a sweater, I was still freezing!  This calls for chili!  I had a can of the Hormel kind with some tortilla chips to add a bit of crunch.

Not as good as homemade.  Time to break out the Crock Pot, my friends.  I am not a huge fan of Michigan winters, but I do love the foods that come with the season.  Let’s be honest, chili really doesn’t hit the spot in the middle of July when it’s 90+ degrees and humid.

The highlight of my food today is summed up in two simple words:  rum cake.  There are no words to describe how uh-mazing and delicious it is.

It was a bit of restraint (and Friday’s impending weigh in for the office Biggest Loser) that kept me at one piece.  There could have been so much more.

Dinner was a Mexican smorgasbord (isn’t that a great word?).  I had a few different dipping piles:  refried beans, seven layer taco dip, and guacamole, all topped off with sour cream.  I guess it was a bean kind of day!

Again, I’m a failure at the fruits and veg.

Off to go brainstorm ways to raise my SoleMates money (beyond your generous donations, of course! 😉 Heehee).
