be in the moment.

tags: ,

It felt a bit like a yoga-esque teaching at church this morning.  Shane was talking about Ecclesiastes 3 where the author talks about how there is a time for everything. The take home point, at least for me, was that “the only moment that is real is this moment right now.  When we are able to fully rest in the moment that is now, it opens into the heart.

Breathe for the moment.

It gets easy to dwell in the past or anticipate the future, but the important thing is not to live in those times.  Live in the moment.  Breathe in the moment.

Be in this moment right now.

It felt very fitting, then, that I had yoga on my workout schedule for today.  I think it’s going to be a crucial cross training exercise for me throughout this half marathon training.  I was really not digging the idea of going back out for the third time today, so I skipped the class at the Y and dug out the latest Bob Harper yoga DVD.

Overall, I thought it was a great DVD!  The only complaint I have is that there was a time remaining countdown in the bottom corner of the screen.  I found myself continuing to look at that (it all comes back to that whole be in the moment thing, doesn’t it?).  There is an hour yoga workout and another 15 minute ab section that I didn’t do.  I’m excited to incorporate it into regular practice!

After this morning’s huge breakfast, I skipped lunch.  Even by the time dinner rolled around, it felt a bit more of eating out of necessity rather than true hunger.

I put together a simple little sandwich on a ciabatta roll topped with roasted red pepper hummus, sprouts, spinach, tomato, and a bit of feta cheese.

And, a couple chocolate chip cookies.  Somehow there is always room for one or two of these babies!  Heck yes!

spirit of the marathon.

Have y’all seen Spirit of the Marathon?  I watched it once before, when my running experience was limited to struggling through the Couch to 5k program.  I watched it again this weekend and as much as I loved it the first time, I found it insanely more motivating and inspiring this time around.  There were some definite tears shed watching everyone run the Chicago Marathon after months of training.  I already have a marathon on the brain and this pushed me that much closer to signing up for the Grand Rapids Marathon in October.

But first, this girl needs to get through the National Half Marathon.  One step at a time.  But, don’t be surprised when I sign up.  I want to be able to call myself a marathoner.  Something I never in a million years thought I would aspire to!

What is a goal you have you previously wouldn’t have dreamed for yourself?
